Quality standard
This quality standard covers assessing and managing borderline and antisocial personality disorders. It describes high-quality care in priority areas for improvement.
It does not cover children and young people with an antisocial personality disorder or children with a borderline personality disorder. NICE has published a quality standard on antisocial behaviour and conduct disorders in children and young people.

Future updates: The latest revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) no longer distinguishes the previous separate types of personality disorder, but defines it as a single condition, classified by severity. The new classification does not include borderline or antisocial personality disorder as a separate condition. We are currently exploring whether the existing statements can be amended in line with ICD-11 or whether we need to withdraw this quality standard.
How to use NICE quality standards and how we develop them
Quality standards help you improve the quality of care you provide or commission. They apply in England and Wales (see the UK government website and Welsh government website). Decisions on how they apply in Scotland and Northern Ireland are made by ministers in the Scottish government and Northern Ireland Executive.
