We want you to help us to develop our guidance for NHS and care services. This could be as someone who uses health and care services, a carer, or a member of the public.
As a lay member working with NICE, you will get to:
- use your experience to help others
- work with a range of experts, including those who use services, carers and the public
- build your confidence, knowledge and skills.
You will receive:
- tailored advice and support
- travel and accommodation if required
- reasonable expenses and an attendance fee (visit the NICE committees page for more information).
Find out more about developing NICE guidelines: how to get involved.
Zoe Picton-Howell, lay committee member
Zoe sat on our committee developing guidance for the NHS on end-of-life care for children and young people. She talks about how being part of the NICE guideline was an opportunity to build on her young son’s lasting legacy – Adam, who passed away in 2015.
Hellen Adom, lay committee member
Helen talks to us about the kind of lived experience she has and how this helped to shape our recommendations for those living with sickle cell disease.
How can I get involved?
Join a committee or working group
Our committees develop and update our guidance. You can use your experiences to help shape our guidance and standards by joining as a lay member.
Lay members contribute the perspectives of people who use services, carers or specific communities to a committee's work.
Join our people and communities network
By sharing real-life experiences and views, network members make a difference to the people most directly affected by our recommendations. You can do this in a way that is flexible and convenient for you.
We’d particularly like to hear from from 16 to 30 years old and people from ethnic minorities.
Comment on guidance that's being developed
Our public consultations are your chance to let us know what you think about our recommendations. Whether they meet your needs and to let us know about any important evidence that you believe the guideline may not have taken into account.
