Planning your technology appraisal submission to NICE

Engage at the optimal time for your technology appraisal, to achieve NICE guidance within 3 months of marketing authorisation.

Scheduling health technology evaluations:

Scheduling of technology appraisal evaluations into the medicines work programme is based on two things:

Scheduling is based on the expected MA date unless a delay is requested and agreed.
We aim to align the committee meeting with the MA date to publish final guidance within 90 days of receiving MA.

If requested, the topic will be scheduled as close as possible to the preferred date.

Select a date from the drop-down menu in cell G4. This will populate cells C4 - F4 with estimated dates for earlier milestones of the timeline.
The first milestone is the development of the scope, which occurs 2-3 months before the invitation to participate (ITP). Information regarding this process will be communicated to you by the Scoping Team as these dates approach.

The tool provides approximate dates for milestones in a standard technology appraisal without technical engagement. Companies can use these dates to plan resources and prepare their submission.
NICE aims to schedule appraisals with MA approval but cannot guarantee alignment due to high volume.
Timelines are confirmed only after written email confirmation from the TA/HST scheduling team.
Dates in the drop-down menu correspond to scheduled committee meetings of the five different committees. They give companies an indication of the full timeline of an appraisal.
NICE decides which committee will appraise a technology. It is not guaranteed that the date selected for your calculations will be the exact date scheduled once your evaluation timelines are confirmed. The exact date may differ by up to a week.
