Reason for decision | Anticipate the topic will be of importance to patients, carers, professionals, commissioners and the health of the public to ensure clinical benefit is realised, inequalities in use addressed, and help them make the best use of NHS resources |
Further information | Increasing access to treatment and reducing waiting times has been key focus of NHS England in recent years, however rising numbers of referrals and limited treatment options mean that already pressured services are not able to meet the increasing demands. Digital solutions providing NICE-recommended eating disorder treatment, such as eating disorder-focused cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT-E) in a digital format, accessed by patients in the home setting may increase access for CYP with mild-to-moderate eating disorders. This may be an alternative or adjunct to current face-to-face care. Some digital solutions are being used in clinical practice, however, there are no recommendations or specific guidelines on the use of digital platforms for delivering eating disorder treatment. NICE guidance would provide a clear signal to the system of the clinical and cost-effectiveness of these technologies. |
