This document describes the process used to develop clinical guidelines up to March 2006.  It has been replaced by a new edition (published in 2006): The guidelines manual - Appendix L: The guideline development process. However, some guidelines that were at a late stage of development in April 2006 are being produced by the process described in the 2004 edition.
