NICE has assessed new generation cardiac CT scanners (Aquilion ONE, Brilliance iCT, Discovery CT750 HD and Somatom Definition Flash) to help the NHS decide whether to use these products for imaging the heart.
In some people, imaging the heart and surrounding blood vessels is difficult with older types of CT scanners. New generation cardiac CT scanners have advantages over older types of CT scanners for these people because they can produce better images in a shorter time (within one or two heartbeats).
NICE has said that the new generation CT scanners are recommended as an option for imaging in people who have, or who may have coronary artery disease, in whom imaging with older types of scanners is difficult.
