NICE has assessed the MiraQ system to help the NHS decide whether to use this product.
Coronary artery bypass graft surgery uses a section of a person’s own blood vessel (usually from the leg) to bypass a blockage in a blood vessel in the heart. The MiraQ system uses ultrasound to show surgeons how well blood is flowing through the graft when it has been put in place. NICE has said the MiraQ system can be used to check for problems with coronary artery bypass grafts that could be corrected during surgery.
Hospital teams may want to use the MiraQ system because it can reduce problems after coronary artery bypass graft surgery that are caused by graft failure, and may reduce the length of time people need to stay in hospital.
