Resource impact statement
No significant resource impact is anticipated
We do not expect this guideline to have a significant impact on resources; that is:
- the resource impact of implementing any single guideline recommendation in England will be less than £1 million per year (or £1,800 per 100,000 population) and
- the resource impact of implementing the whole guideline in England will be less than £5 million per year (or £9,000 per 100,000 population).
Where clinical practice changes as a result of this guideline, there will not be a significant change in resource use. This is because any additional costs are likely to be offset by savings and benefits.
The recommendations aim to reassure clinicians that scans may not always be necessary (see recommendation 1.4.8). Reductions in imaging may lead to cost savings for commissioners and a capacity benefit for providers. The recommendations also aim to direct clinicians to the most appropriate scanning method.
Where psychological therapies are not currently offered increased costs may be incurred, however these may be minimised by considering a stepped approach to psychological therapies and by providers using their existing staff skills and digital tools to minimise the resource impact.
Tinnitus services are commissioned by clinical commissioning groups. Providers are NHS hospital trusts, community providers, mental health trusts and independent mental health service providers.
