Resource impact statement
No significant resource impact is anticipated
We do not expect this guideline to have a significant impact on resources; that is:
- the resource impact of implementing any single guideline recommendation in England will be less than £1 million per year (or approximately £1,800 per 100,000 population, based on a population for England of 56.3 million people) and
- the resource impact of implementing the whole guideline in England will be less than £5 million per year (or approximately £9,000 per 100,000 population, based on a population for England of 56.3 million people).
This is because the recommendations are in line with current practice and or current legislation but aim to make best practice more consistent across the NHS. However, some of the recommendations may:
- require extra time for healthcare professionals to communicate and to hold discussions with children and young people
- require extra resources to promote and deliver accessible and flexible services, including an increase in the number of independent advocates that may be needed within NHS services
- need organisations to provide appropriate space for young people because many hospitals have paediatric units decorated for very young children that may not be an appropriate environment for young people.
Any additional costs are not expected to result in a significant resource impact at a national level but should be reviewed at a local level.
Babies, children, and young people’s services are commissioned by NHS England and integrated care systems/clinical commissioning groups. Providers are NHS hospital trusts, community providers, mental health trusts and primary care providers.
