Transition between inpatient mental health settings and community and care home settings: scope consultation

NICE have been asked to develop a guideline on the Transition between inpatient mental health settings and community and care home settings for use in England. The draft scope defines what aspects of care the guideline will cover and to whom it will apply.  Registered stakeholders for this topic are invited to submit comments on the scope. Individuals and organisations not registered as stakeholders are not able to comment, we recommend that you register as a stakeholder or you contact the registered stakeholder organisation that most closely represents your interests and pass your comments to them.

Consultation dates: 30 September – 28 October 2014

Consultation documents:

  • Transition between inpatient mental health settings and community and care home settings for people: Draft scope
  • Transition between inpatient mental health settings and community and care home settings for people: Comments proforma
  • Transition between inpatient mental health settings and community and care home settings for people: Stakeholder workshop notes
  • Transition between inpatient mental health settings and community and care home settings for people: Draft equality impact assessment

Points to consider in the consultation:

  • The draft scope takes a whole population approach and includes adults, and children and young people.  What do you think the advantages and disadvantages are of taking this approach?
  • Transition is a key issue across a range of NICE guidelines and defining what transition means in different contexts is complex. The focus of this scope is on transitions where there is a move between settings. Are there accepted or commonly used definitions of transition in your services?
  • Do you think this scope could be changed to better promote equality of opportunity relating to age, disability, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, religion and belief, sexual orientation or socio-economic status?

In answering this question, please include details of:

  • Which particular parts of the scope you think affect equality of opportunity.
  • Why and how you think equality of opportunity is affected.
