Consultation review – October 2019
Proposal to update the guidance in an on-going guideline
NICE has been considering whether sufficient new evidence has emerged for the Appraisal Committee to be asked to undertake a full update of TA139; Continuous positive airway pressure for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome.
TA139 was added to the static list in February 2012 following stakeholder consultation on a review proposal. No new evidence was identified at the time that changed the current recommendations.
The Obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome and obesity hypoventilation syndrome in over 16s (OSAHSOS) clinical guideline is currently in development (October 2019) and is considering interventions for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome (OSAHS), including the use of oral devices. As a result, it is appropriate to propose an update to recommendation 1.2 of TA139 within the OSAHSOS guideline.
Consequently, we propose that TA139 should be updated in the clinical guideline for Obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome and obesity hypoventilation syndrome in over 16s (OSAHSOS).
In order to be completely confident that this is appropriate, we are inviting relevant stakeholders to comment on the proposal.
For more information about why this proposal has been made and for information about the potential next steps, please refer to the review proposal paper.
