Sleep apnoea - continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP): review update - March 2011
Review of NICE Technology Appraisal no. 139; Continuous positive airway pressure for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome
Decision to defer the review
The planned date for review of the above guidance was November 2010.
This is the date at which the Institute decides whether sufficient new evidence has emerged for the Appraisal Committee to be asked to undertake a full review appraisal.
Technology Appraisals and Information Services have carried out a search for information relevant to this appraisal and have found that the evidence base has not changed significantly since publication of TA139. There is currently an ongoing trial, the MOSAIC trial, whose outcome could potentially affect the recommendations made in TA139. Results from the MOSAIC trial are due to be published in ~ 6 months.
Consequently Guidance Executive has decided that the consideration to review the original guidance will be deferred until mid 2011 to coincide with publication of the results of the MOSAIC trial. At this point the evidence base will again be assessed to ascertain the need for a review of the guidance.
In the meantime if you have any queries please contact Kate Moore, Technology Appraisal Project Manager, (kate.moore@nice.org.uk, 0161 870 3154).
