TA74 Trauma - fluid replacement therapy: review proposal - August 2015
Proposal for the existing guidance to be partially updated in a clinical guideline
TA74; Pre-hospital initiation of fluid replacement therapy in trauma was moved to the static list in January 2007.
The Technology Appraisals team has carried out a Static List Review to consider whether it is appropriate for the guidance to remain on the static list.
There was no new evidence discovered that would warrant an update of the guidance within the Technology Appraisals programme. However, NICE is currently developing a clinical guideline for major trauma which is due to be published in February 2016. The draft guideline currently includes recommendations on volume resuscitation and fluid replacement in pre-hospital and hospital settings, which are directly relevant to some of the recommendations in TA74. It therefore seems appropriate for these relevant recommendations to be updated in the forthcoming clinical guideline.
Consequently we propose that recommendations 1.1, 1.2 and 1.4 should be updated in the forthcoming clinical guideline for major trauma. The remaining recommendations – 1.3, 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7, should remain on the static list.
In order to be completely confident that this is appropriate, we are asking all relevant consultees and commentators, to inform us of any evidence which will help us decide the best way to update this guidance.
