Review Proposal - February 2014
Review of NICE Technology Appraisal Guidance No.92; HealOzone for the treatment of tooth decay (occlusal pit and fissure caries and root caries)
Proposal to withdraw the existing guidance
The planned date for review of the above guidance was 2013, when the results of the NCT00495495 trial were expected to be available.
The NCT00495495 study completed in 2009 and has remained unpublished. There have been no other published clinical trials assessing the efficacy of HealOzone since the last review proposal in 2008. Additionally, the manufacturer of HealOzone is no longer actively marketing the product.
Consequently we propose that TA92 should be withdrawn.
In order to be completely confident that this is appropriate, we are asking all relevant consultees and commentators, to inform us of any evidence which will help us decide the best way to update this guidance. Please see appendix A for a full list of the organisations we have contacted.
