Diabetes: IFCC-HbA1c 58mmol/mol or less
Resource impact statement
Indicator
The percentage of patients with diabetes, on the register, in whom the last IFCC-HbA1c is 58 mmol/mol or less in the preceding 12 months.
Resource impact
This statement covers a new indicator that is part of the NICE menu of potential Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) indicators for 2017/18, following the recommendations of the NICE indicators advisory committee in June 2016.
The current QOF already incentivises this area in an existing QOF indicator that may be replaced by IND165:
- DM007: The percentage of patients with diabetes, on the register, in whom the last IFCC-HbA1c is 59 mmol/mol or less in the preceding 12 months.
The underlying achievement for DM007 in 2014/15 was around 70% (see the Quality and Outcomes Framework 2014/15). The change in threshold from 59 to 58 mmol/mol is not expected to lead to a significant change in clinical practice. As a result, no resource impact is expected from introducing IND165.
