Further research is recommended on resource use and clinical effects associated with using the xTAG Gastrointestinal Pathogen Panel, the FilmArray GI Panel and the Faecal Pathogens B assay.

(if applicable) The committee was advised that outcomes and resource use may vary according to healthcare setting and case mix, and so research should take place in multicentre studies that take account of these factors. Outcome data that should be collected include but are not limited to:
- length of stay in hospital
- length of time in isolation
- change of treatment plan as a result of testing.
