NICE is committed to promoting equality of opportunity, eliminating unlawful discrimination and fostering good relations between people with particular protected characteristics and others.
People with cancer are protected under the Equality Act 2010 from the point of diagnosis. Older people and people with an African-Caribbean and African family background are at higher risk of developing prostate cancer. A person can have a prostate but not identify as a man. Age, race, sex and gender reassignment are all protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010.
