NICE has not recommended PredictSURE IBD and IBDX. This is because the evidence for them is from only a small number of people, so NICE cannot be certain of their accuracy.
PredictSURE IBD and IBDX are blood tests that aim to predict if you’re at risk of severe Crohn’s disease. If the test says you're high risk, you could be offered ‘top-down’ treatment. This reverses the usual order of treatments offered to people with Crohn’s disease. But there's not enough evidence that top-down treatment is better than the standard approach, especially in the NHS where it’s not used much.
NICE has said that more research is needed on:
- how accurate the tests are
- what effect they have on decisions about how to treat the condition
- what effect they have on the condition itself.
