NICE has said that Greenlight XPS can be used in the NHS for benign prostatic hyperplasia.
GreenLight XPS uses a laser to reduce the size of an enlarged prostate, easing the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. It is at least as effective as other treatment options and often can be done as a day-case procedure (that is, you can go home on the same day as the procedure is done). It also allows you to get back to normal day-to-day activities quicker after the procedure.
Is this treatment right for me?
Your healthcare professionals should give you clear information, talk with you about your options and listen carefully to your views and concerns. Your family can be involved too, if you wish. Read more about making decisions about your care.
Questions to think about
- How well does it work compared with other treatments, such as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP)?
- What are the risks or side effects? How likely are they?
- How will the treatment affect my day-to-day life?
- What happens if the treatment does not work?
- What happens if I do not want to have GreenLight XPS? Are there other treatments available?
