Oral health promotion: general dental practice

We found 28 relevant studies in a search for all study types published between 1 January 2015 and 24 January 2018.

Views of topic experts

We considered the views of topic experts, including those who helped to develop the guideline. Overall, topic experts agreed with the decision not to update the guideline at this time, noting that there is no substantially new evidence available which would change the recommendations.

Views of stakeholders

Stakeholders commented on the decision not to update the guideline. Three stakeholders commented. See appendix B for stakeholders' comments and our responses.

Two stakeholders agreed with the decision to not update the guideline, and 1 disagreed. Comments included that consideration should be made to the social, economic and public policy context around oral health and that there are expected delays in the reform of the NHS contract for general dental practice. After consideration, it was concluded that inequalities in oral health outcomes according to socioeconomic group were considered during guideline development and reflected in the recommendations. It is also anticipated the recommendations are unlikely to be impacted by the expected delay in NHS general dental practice contract reforms. This is because the guideline aims to recommend the most effective methods of delivering oral health promotion which are applicable in the context of the current, or any future versions of the NHS general dental practice contract.
