Legislation, regulation and professional standards
There are laws and professional standards that set out how medicines should be managed in care homes. Different organisations across England, Wales and Northern Ireland monitor whether or not these laws and standards are being followed. In England, adult care homes are monitored by the Care Quality Commission (also called the CQC) and children's care homes by Ofsted. Different regulators are responsible for monitoring in Wales and Northern Ireland.
There is more information on the NICE website about care for people using health and social care services.
